Default DOPS review for Kearney

Following an incident during last Sunday's match at the Spectrum in Guildford, Denny Kearney was subject to a DOPS review due to striking an opposing player in the face with his stick.

DOPS have deemed that he intentionally swung his stick, making contact with the players head, due to this he has been given a 3 game suspension.

This means he misses tonight's game against Manchester Storm, along with the weekends fixtures against Guildford Flames and Edinburgh Capitals.

I personally think it was probably international but a three match ban for that is ludicrous. Dunbar goes down like an absolute sack of spuds - definitely the league trying to make an example. Its such a shame that in reality, most people will remember that game as encapsulating Lightning’s season whereas they actually made a really promising start.

Where did it all go wrong?!

Deliberate all day long. Deserves his ban. There was no need what so ever to be swinging his stick like that. How anyone can think the ban is harsh is beyond me 🙄

If it was deliberate then the ban might be quite lenient. That said if it was deliberate you would think his hand would move upwards which he didn't.

Get a stick (or brush etc) and recreate trying to get up off the ground from the position he was in in one motion. While you can get up with the stick still horizontal it doesn't feel at all right to me. You want to twist you hand and the stick will point upwards as you get up by putting weight on your fist, not the back of your hand as they maintain he should have.

Think the DoPS have got it wrong

Agree only one person knows if it was deliberate, certainly clumsy and careless but no way can you prove it was deliberate..
For me 1 game was sufficient but just not going our way at moment..

I’d agree with DOPS and say reckless. There is no need for him to have his stick up in the air like that, that was a decision he made and must take responsibility for regardless of intent. Just like the Cov player who knee’d Essery, that was unintentional but illegal and unfortunately led to an injury. Kearney could very easily have caused injury in this incidence. As for trying to get up from that position without swinging your stick in the air you might be right but that’s why you don’t get up in that manner. You turn into your knees for support and use your stick as leverage. It’s pretty much the first thing kids are taught when they start playing.
