Default DOPS Overhaul

Well it seems the EIHL have seen the light and listened, in part, to the fans.

Announcement made today that Lyle Seitz and the Players Safety Committee will continue to review all player safety matters

As of January 2018, officials dependant, all EIHL, Challenge Cup and Play Off games will be managed by a 4-person officiating system

PSC will now review the following:

All 2+10 & 5+game - Checking to the head
All 2+10 & 5+game - Checking from behind
All match penalties
All 5min major penalties
Any body contact penalties that result in an injury

Big step forward and the DOPS explanations ,since they took over from the circus that happened prior to Fretter, have been excellent. Super pleased they are continuing.

Also hurrah for 4 official system.

As mentioned elsewhere will be interesting to note if they ban fighting. It’s the EIHL definition of a major......

I hope they review last night's Game/Match for Nickerson, those close by said he never touched him?

I believe the Nickerson penalty was called as a 5+game for cross checking last night, and according to the latest press release from the EIHL, they will now automatically review all 5min major penalties, and any body contact penalties that result in an injury. Seeing as the lad involved had a fair split to the bridge of his nose, I think it's safe to say it'll be reviewed. The result should be made public within 48hrs I believe.

I didn't see it either, however, my lad did and he said that it looked "clumsy".

When discussed elsewhere, the consensus seemed to be that it was legitimate check, but as the player went towards the boards, he pointed his skate downwards which meant he went straight over the front of them into the boards head first.

If that's the case (and they weren't in a dissimilar line to the cameras) then I can't see that being any more than upheld at best and no ban.

Obviously, we don't like to see anyone get injured or hurt though.

Well PSC have reviewed the footage and Nickerson will be suspended for one game, meaning he misses the visit of Braehead Clan on Sunday.
