Default Guildford Flames v MK Lightning Sun 15/10/17 F.O. 1800

Pete Russell and the team travel to Guildford on Sunday night to take on the Flames in our final Challenge Cup group game, with victory for MK meaning a 4pt weekend, and a guaranteed top spot in the group.

Home Team - Guildford Flames

Netminders

#1 Samuel Calder
#1 Chris Carrozzi (CAN)
#33 Michael Will
#41 Brian Stewart (CAN)

Defencemen

#2 Adam Jones (u23)
#4 Brennan Yadlowski (CAN)
#7 Kevin Phillips
#8 Carl Ackered (SWE)
#20 Tomas Nechala (SVK)
#44 Jesse Craige (CAN)
#82 Jeremy Lundin (USA)

Forwards

#5 Ben Davies
#14 Charles Wells (CAN)
#18 Brett Ferguson (CAN)
#21 Mikael Lidhammar (SWE)
#27 Ian Watters (CAN)
#40 Rhett Rachinski (CAN)
#48 Ben Campbell
#51 Kruise Reddick (CAN)
#57 Liam Stewart
#79 David Lilliestrom Karlsson (SWE)
#90 John Dunbar (CAN)
#91 Andrew McKinney (CAN)

Head Coach: Paul Dixon

Flames arguably had the tougher Saturday night fixture with a hard fought overtime victory in Wales, beating the Devils 3-2. Victory at home on Sunday would see the Flames register a 4pt weekend and put them in the driving seat to finish top of the group.

Guildford found themselves in a similar position to Lightning earlier in the month, when their import netminder Brian Stewart suffered an injury, however they too moved quickly to find injury cover, signing fellow Canadian Chris Carrozzi from Danish side Mighty Bulls.

Away Team - Milton Keynes Lightning

Netminders

#1 Jordan Hedley (u23)
#20 Miika Wiikman (SWE)
#90 Przemyslaw Odrobny (POL)
#?? Adam Long (u23)

Defencemen

#2 Carl Hudson (A) (CAN)
#5 Ed Knaggs (u23)
#15 James Griffin

#50 Matt Nickerson (USA)

Forwards

#11 Lewis Hook (u23)
#12 Guillame Doucet (CAN)
#14 Alex Forbes (u23)
#16 Ben Foster (USA)
#17 Ashley Tait
#19 Kyle Essery (CAN)
#21 Luc Johnson (u23)
#22 Denny Kearney (USA)
#25 Kevin King (C) (CAN)
#26 Christian Isackson (USA)
#45 Ludwig Karlsson (SWE)
#72 Glenn Billing (u23)
#78 Francis Verreault-Paul (CAN)
#89 Jonathan Boxill

Head Coach: Peter Russell

Although running out with a resounding 5-1 victory over Coventry Blaze on Saturday night, the game was physical throughout and Lightning played nearly half the match with only four defencemen due to Hudson and Nickerson being ejected with match and game penalties respectively.

The two teams have faced each other three times so far this season, twice in pre-season and once in the challenge cup, with MKL winning all three games. Lightning won 3-1, home and away pre-season, then 3-2 at home in the challenge cup with an opener from King and a pair from Doucet.

Face off expected at 1800 at the Spectrum in Guildford

I'll be travelling so will be updating the forum, or for those who prefer Twitter @MKL_Matchnight

Can't find a live stream for the match anywhere yet, but I'll keep looking

We looked a different prospect last night with an almost fully-fit roster.

Hook looking comfortable on a 'top' line and having Karlsson back is such a bonus, power and speed backed-up with skill.

There will NOT be a live stream of tonight's game, so it's Twitter or here for updates for those not travelling.

It's game day at the Spectrum in Guildford, as Lightning seek to cement their place at the top of their group.

Denny Kearney will be hoping to extend his lead as the competitions leading scorer with 6 goals from five games (with 4 assists), and Paul Phillips will want to stay top of the defence leaders points table, with 2 goals and 6 assists.

Lightning will be without Candian D Carl Hudson, who was assessed a match penalty for a check to the head, and I believe Flames will be without their CC leading scorer Ian Watters (P4 G5 A1), who was also given a match for a check to the head.

Gamesheet didn't give Hudson a match penalty just a 2+10 (which looked a poor call - would like to see the video incident of that one) so presume he got injured

Watters didn't get a match penalty either

Fingers crossed Hudson will be available then, I was under the impression (mistaken obviously) that all checks to the head were called an automatic match penalty, must have got my wires crossed somewhere.

Maybe someone with a bit more hockey knowledge than myself can clarify the rules then, as I was working off the following....

RULE 124 – CHECKING TO THE HEAD OR NECK
DEFINITION: A player who directs a hit of any sort, with any part of his body or equipment, to the head or neck of an opposing player or drives or forces the head of an opposing player into the protective glass or boards. This rule supersedes all similar actions regarding hits to the head and neck except those related to fighting.

i. There is no such thing as a clean hit to the head. Whether accidental or intentional, every direct hit to the head or neck of an opponent will be penalized.

iii. A player who injures or recklessly endangers an opponent as a result of checking to the head or neck will be assessed a match penalty.

Good evening from The Spectrum in Guildford, players have been out warming up with a football, and we're about an hour away from face off
