If you're already having hockey withdrawal symptoms after only a month of the close season, there IS a remedy! On Saturday 9th June the UK Firefighters Ice Hockey Team will be at Planet Ice in Milton Keynes - home of the MK Lightning - to take on the British Army Blades for a charity fixture to raise money for the Burned Children's Club charity.

The UK Firefighters team comprises ice hockey players from all around the country who represent every level of the game - from those who play purely for enjoyment and exercise at recreational level, right up to the top tier of the British game. The game will give MK Lightning's supporters their first chance to cheer on the team's newest recruit Nick Chinn, on his first appearance for the Firefighters since signing from Basingstoke Bison.

When the two teams meet in Milton Keynes, the UK Firefighters will be aiming to build on their 6-9 away win against the Blackpool Seagulls recreational team, back in February - when fans of both sides raised over £1,000 for the Help for Heroes and Children With Cancer charities. That sum was later matched by a donation from a major UK bank - a gesture which the Firefighters hope will happen again after the game in June.

"Obviously as players we hope the game will be a lot of fun", said Lightning's Lewis Clifford, who will skate for the Firefighters. "But the aim of the day is to raise as much money as possible to help children who have suffered burn injuries, and their families. All of us playing for the UK Firefighters know at first hand from our jobs just how devastating burn injuries can be.

"The Burned Children's Club does a massive amount of work to help burn survivors and their families come to terms with the consequences of these injuries using recreational activities - so this is our way of using a recreational activity to help them continue their work".

100 per cent of the gate proceeds on the day will be donated to the Burned Children's Club as will match fees paid by players of both teams, and bucket collections will be held at Planet Ice on the day.

The game takes place at Planet Ice in Milton Keynes on Saturday 9 June with face off at 4.30pm, doors open 4.00pm, admission £4 per person.

I know I speak for Harry, Nick and Dave when I say that it's a privilege to be associated with this club. We made a suggestion (or call it a request), to help pay for "the big man" and when people could have rightly answered that it was our job to secure the services of the players we would like, they didn't. They gave us a message of support that was both loud and very clear and for that I, (no infact the whole club), thank you very much.

You truly are the best sports fans in the UK.
