Following the EIHA AGM, it was agreed that the Women's Division 1 league would be split into three regions in order to reduce travelling times, associated costs and carbon emissions (actually I threw that one in). The new structure looks like this:
North- Billingham, Blackburn, Flintshire, Nottingham, Sheffield, Whitley
Midlands- Coventry, Milton Keynes Falcons, Oxford Midnight Stars, Oxford University Blues, Peterbrough Penguins, Telford
South- Basingstoke Bears, Basingstoke Bison, Bracknell Firebees, Chelmsford Cobras, Invicta Dynamics, Streatham Storm
For the coming 2008-09 season, the MK Falcons will play each team in the Midlands Division home/away (10 games). Falcons will also play additional home/away games against Peterborough and Oxford University (4 games) based on last year's results for a total of 14 games. Top team in each division go to the national playoffs in Sheffield at the end of the season.
Other Falcons news:
Defenceman Diane Ward underwent ankle surgery in late May and is now hobbling about in crutches for the next month or so. She will spend August doing intense physio and training to get game ready for start of season in September.
Lindsay Corroll is hanging up her skates for a while as she is expecting her first baby. Warm congratulations to Lindsay and Dom on their happy news (we'll miss our feisty forward!).
The team is training throughout the summer months on Sundays from 8:45-9:45 am. The Club is always looking for new players and welcome all enquiries. If interested please contact manager Heather Dean via the Falcons website at http://mkfalcons.users.btopenworld.com/
If anyone would like to order their own personalised Falcons shirt, please send a PM to me asap for details. The club will put an order into the supplier in early August.
News of player signings will follow in August.
