MK Falcons face the Division 1 leading Swindon Wildcats this Sunday face off at 16:25. It will be the toughest match this season as Swindon have continued their winning ways from last season, remaining unbeaten so far and mowing down the opposition at every opportunity. Falcons will be without their reliable defenceman at back, Diane Ward, who is off to Banff for three weeks snowboarding and watching hockey. She'll be sorely missed but stepping into the breach is goalie Alex Barrow (welcome back Alex!) who is back briefly from university this weekend. Alex has agreed to play out which will be a huge help to the team. Up front the Falcons will see the return of Ildiko Sumeg who will provide added support given Kelley Lee Gilmore's worsening shoulder problem.
Here is the line up for Sunday:
Goalie: Sam Vernon
Defence: Hayley Dean, Alex Barrow, Carla Todd, Lynn Ferguson
Line 1: Kelley Lee Gilmore/Ildiko Sumeg, Wendy London, Jody Branston
Line 2: Lindsey Corroll, Gemma Dean, Cheri McCluskey
Coaches: Paul Dean, Aaron Todd Manager: Heather Dean

How much is it to go and watch?
I decided when I got into ice hockey that I'd support all the MK teams, but like (I assume) most people have only actually seen Lightning.
I'd love to watch the Falcons.

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but if you want to see all teams, there are some cracking junior games. As Slug said, all entry is free

Well, I must say that I loved the game. I expect to be at all the Falcons home games in future.
It was horrible when one of the girls was down injured though. Is she okay?

Thanks ElseMush for your welcome support - very nice to hear you enjoyed it. I'm not sure we did as much...we'll feel very sore tomorrow.
Actually, with half the team new this year, and three playing their first season with the Falcons, we didn't do half bad against the reigning league champions and unbeaten league leaders. The Wildcats have notched up some pretty sobering scores this year so this result is not as bad as it looks. We are disappointed with the score, of course, and wish we could have got more offence going. But the team worked very hard tonight. Match report to follow.
Lindsay Corroll is fine (ish) after falling hard on her left shoulder (Falcons favourite injury this year). She returned to finish the game but was sporting an apple-sized bruise/welt when she left.
Our next home match is 15 March against the bottom of the league Basingstoke Bears (face off 4:25 pm). It is always a bonus for us to get any spectators!
Missed you Bubbs tonight and very gutted to hear the result from Potty. Hope the Thunder did better against Swindon.

Well as a newcomer to the sport I couldn't see much difference between the teams early on, in fact we looked the stronger if anything. That only changed after they scored when each team seemed to get a confidence nudge reflecting the goal.
Still, Bubbles told me it'd be a hard game as Swindon are a great side. The way they celebrated that first goal made their relief quite clear nonetheless. The main difference between the teams seemed to be the shooting. They have some good hitters.
Top marks go to number 13 who was all over them all match! I was surprised she didn't get MOM (I refuse to call it POM until one of the Falcons tell me they actually prefer it) but then I'm sure that whoever decides these things knows more than I.
I'm looking forward to a different result in March!
Well played!

Unfortunately, Falcons ice time for their home match against the Basingstoke Bears on 15 March has now been taken away by Planet Ice. We are awaiting a new date to be confirmed and will post here asap.
